HGV Technician

Our client;

We are proud to be working alongside a well know organisation who due to expansion are looking to add a HGV Mechanic to their highly successful engineering team in Didcot.

The role;

  • The inspection, diagnosis, maintenance and repair of all company vehicles including vans and lorries
  • Work effectively unsupervised and often with only an outline brief, using specialist or practical skills to complete a timely solution
  • Receive, handle safely, store or deploy materials appropriate to the task being undertaken
  • Diagnose vehicle faults, using diagnostic equipment
  • Undertake mechanical, electrical and some minor body repair. 6. Road test Company vehicles (licence permitting)
  • Supply own hand tools and take responsibility for specialist tools, materials etc that are used and observe a duty of care for all other items within the department

Skills & experience required;

  • City and Guilds, Level 3 NVQ or equivalent
  • Knowledge and previous experience of vehicle bodywork repairs and maintenance procedures, ideally on HGV, PCV or Buses
  • Awareness and understanding of risk assessment, Health and Safety practices and Department of Transport standards
  • Knowledge of manual handling regulations
  • Computer literate with working knowledge of relevant packages
  • Analysing and fault finding
  • Bus body work
  • Basic vehicle electrics
  • Relevant knowledge of all types of vehicle operated by the Company

Hours;

Hours – Average 50 hours per week worked on a rota basis, which could include weekends and public holidays

Holiday – 20 days holiday + Bank holidays

Accounts Assistant

The role;

Our well-established client based in Didcot is currently seeking an Accounts Assistant to join their team on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will ideally have previous accounting experience, or it may suit an individual who has recently finished studying their AAT qualifications / finance college course.

Working hours are Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week.

Main responsibilities;

  • Assisting with accounts payable and receivable tasks
  • Perform data entry and maintain accurate financial records
  • Reconcile bank statements and resolve any discrepancies
  • Support the finance team with various administrative tasks

Required;

  • Proficiency in accounting software such as Sage, QuickBooks, or PeopleSoft
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
  • Knowledge of financial services and basic accounting principles

The Company;

We are looking for Pickers / Packers to join our clients team based on Milton Park, Abingdon.

Working a day shift from 7am until 3pm, Monday to Friday, this is a temporary to permanent role.

The Role;
  • You will be required to pick orders in an accurate and time efficient manner.

  • Have a good attention to detail, ensuring items and work is completed with minimal errors.

  • Packing of picked items ready for despatch and ensuring labels are printed and addressed to the correct items.
  • You must adhere to all aspects of health and safety and company guidelines.

About You;
  • You will need to have a good understanding of written and spoken English and be able to work with computers.
  • No experience necessary as full training will be given
  • Successful applicants should be within a commutable distance of Milton Park, Abingdon.

We now have an opportunity for a Senior Software engineer to lead a team supporting and developing data Acquisition (DAQ) software for Soft Condensed Matter (SCM) and Crystallography science groups.

This role involves technically guiding and leading the team developing DAQ solutions for these science groups as well as contributing to those solutions.

As a team leader in the DAQ Group you will work alongside other software engineers supporting a range of experimental techniques and developing DAQ capabilities in an open and collaborative environment. You will be required to interact with scientists and translate their specifications for scientific capabilities into software requirements, which will entail writing codes to communicate to the hardware.

You will liaise with controls, data analysis and information management engineers to put these requirements into action. You will collaborate with the scientists and science group leaders to prioritise the work of your team and you will support the DAQ Core Team in the modernisation of the Acquisition Platform. You will also potentially participate in international collaborations within this domain, sharing best practice and supporting other facilities within the collaboration.

EXPERIENCE

  • Java, Java RMI, Python desirable
  • Experience in the full Software Development Lifecycle, using a modern high-level language.
  • Understanding of good software design principles and design for usability.
  • Experience of developing software to control and monitor scientific or industrial equipment or IoT is preferable
  • Experience of working with large and complex code bases
  • Minimum degree qualification in a STEM subject

You should display good communication, interpersonal and analytical skills, with a personal interest or experience in science. You should additionally be able to demonstrate the following essential capabilities:

  • Strong leadership and organisation.

POST TITLE: Devops Engineer

We have an excellent opportunity to work for one of the most advanced scientific facilities in the world. Our client is recruiting for a Devops engineer based within their Harwell/Didcot site.

THE ROLE

This is a varied role where you will work with existing staff in order to implement appropriate devops tools and practices that best support software in use within the company.

  • Analyse cutting edge and industry standard devops tools and practices in terms of potential use within the company’s software development and deployment processes. Promote user cases and solutions both internally and externally through significant meetings or conferences.
  • Subject to the overall software architecture and strategy, implement and integrate devops tools and methodologies into software development and deployment processes.
  • Establish, maintain, and participate in international collaborations to contribute to the success of company.
  • Provide operational support for software components that underpin both on premises and public cloud hosted devops platforms.
  • Deliver high quality reporting and professional advice to software developers and systems administrators regarding devops best practice and tooling, and present findings to line managers and other team members.
  • Contribute to the future approach of scientific and technical software development, deployment, and operations to maximise productivity and data quality for the company users.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with comparable facilities operating similar scientific computing infrastructures.

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience working with production ready monitoring and logging systems, preferably in a Cloud native environment using tools such as Prometheus.
  • Proven experience of working with production systems such as Kubernetes that run containerised applications.
  • Exposure to ‘infrastructure as code’ tools such as Chef, Puppet or preferably Ansible.
  • Proven experience in implementing CI/CD pipelines for business critical applications.
  • Proven experience working with public Cloud APIs either directly or via orchestration tools such as Terraform.
  • Experience of modern programming languages such as Golang, Java, or Python.
  • Exposure to Web APIs and protocols such as such as OIDC, Javascript, and backend technologies.
  • Solid understanding of software design principles and patterns.
  • Experience or understanding of Synchrotron experimentation or science data interpretation.
  • Experience with customer/user facing issues.
