Junior Wireless Engineer

Junior Wireless Engineer

Central Oxford – Onsite (5 days per week)

Contract role – 3-6 Months (possible extension)

Pay £120 – £150 per day

This is a very exciting role working on a project with The University of Oxford upgrading their Wi-Fi access points. You will be involved with the upgrade Wi-Fi project and have a great opportunity to gain some valuable experience.

Interest in starting a career in wireless networking. The Junior Wireless Engineer will be responsible for scaling/measuring customer buildings and performing Radio Frequency surveys.

The successful candidate must have a good general knowledge of IT, will be trained to use Wi-Fi surveying tools and will need to be able to work at height. The job involves manual handling of physical equipment, Health & Safety training will be provided. The Junior Wireless Engineer must have a good attention to detail and to be able to follow procedures accurately.

Key tasks include, but not limited to:
* Performing RF surveys on-site using Ekahau software;
* Picking, labelling and packing Wi-Fi access points ready for installation;
* To help basic installation of an Wi-Fi access points (if required);
* To assist the Wi-Fi programme with getting Wi-Fi access points vinyl wrapped with third party supplier;
* Help pick-up Wi-Fi access point brackets that have been fabricated for installs;
* To help provide 1st Line Technical support (when required);

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain an Information Security improvement plan for the group.
  • Work with IT staff within the group to build on an existing information security program and ongoing security projects that address information security risks and compliance requirements.
  • Recommend, coordinate and where appropriate, implement agreed technical controls.

Essential:

  • A record of accomplishment in and experience of introducing Information Security Improvement through successfully designing, implementing, and improving IT security architecture and controls.
  • Working technical knowledge in broad domains of IT infrastructure such as data networks, server and desktop hardware and operating systems, storage and backups, and related monitoring and management systems.
  • Demonstrable experience of applying security controls in one or more of the following areas: Unix/Linux Servers, Windows servers, firewalls, IDS/IPS, vulnerability management, WAF, Wi-Fi, mobile security, Data Loss Prevention, digital certificates, encryption and authentication techniques, forensics, and LAN / WANs.
  • Solid understanding of security protocols, cryptography, authentication, authorisation, and security.

We are recruiting for a Wireless Support engineer for highly rated IT reseller based in Oxford. This role is to proactively and consistently monitor, respond, and report on the network health for network customers. As part of this, you will also provide first-line support and troubleshooting for network issues that are raised by means of alerts or support tickets.

This role will also play a big part in customer satisfaction and retention. You will work with the wider team (sales, technical, and support) to ensure we consistently deliver an exceptional Network offering to our customers.

The Role

  • Onboard new customers and deploy Auvik network monitoring software in their environment.
  • Assist with tailoring the set-up of Auvik to suit the customer’s environment.
  • Respond to critical alerts received from Auvik by contacting the customer immediately and starting the troubleshooting process.
  • Proactively monitor the health of Network customers’ WLAN and LAN platforms (device health, updates, new features etc) and discuss any updates that need to occur for optimal network health.
  • Work closely with the Head of Technical when reviewing the customers data and assist with recommendations.
  • Work closely with the Support team to assist with any active tickets for Network customers and escalate if necessary.
  • At the end of the month, compile appropriate information for the customers’ monthly/quarterly Network report.
  • Generate excitement for the company’s other products/services/solutions that the customer doesn’t have (find upsell opportunities organically through the strong relationship you have with customers).
  • Be the voice of the customer within the company and share feedback with the wider team so we can continue to review and refine how we support, sell, market and deliver to our customers.
  • Keep ahead of industry developments and apply best practices to areas of improvement.
